How many baby bibs do you need?

Count the bibs you use in a day, multiply by the days between washes and add two spares. Most families end up with six to twelve, and fewer if wipe-clean bibs get rinsed between meals.

The formula

Bibs needed = bibs used per day × days between washes, plus two spares.

If you use four bibs a day and wash every two days, that is eight, plus two spares: ten. If you wash every day, it drops to six. A wipe-clean silicone bib that you rinse after each meal can be counted as one bib for the whole day, which is why it changes the sum.

Frequently asked questions

How many bibs for a newborn?

Often none to start. If drool or spit-up is soaking clothes, two to four cloth bibs a day is a common starting point.

How many bibs do I need if I wash every day?

Around six is plenty for most families.

Do I need more if my baby is teething?

Often yes. Teething babies drool more, so you may change bibs several times a day.

Are silicone bibs counted differently?

Yes. You can rinse one between meals, so one or two cover a day.

Is this a tested figure?

No. It is our rule of thumb, based on how often bibs get wet and how often you wash.
