Which bib for which stage?
Cloth first, a pocket or smock when solids start, and eventually no bib at all.
Newborns mostly need soft cloth for dribble and spit-up. Once solids start, many families add a silicone bib or a long-sleeve smock. Toddlers who feed themselves often prefer smocks or light wipe-clean bibs, and eventually drop bibs altogether. There is no medical rule for when, so let the mess be your guide.
The NHS says solids should start at around 6 months, when your baby is sitting steadily and showing the signs of being ready.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best type of baby bib?
It depends on the job. Silicone suits solid-food meals, long sleeves suit self-feeding, cloth suits dribble and disposable suits travel.
When should my baby start wearing a bib?
Many families start when dribble or spit-up begins, then add a mealtime bib when solids start.
Can a baby wear a bib to sleep?
No. The Lullaby Trust says a cot should hold just a firm mattress and light bedding; it doesn't mention bibs, so we follow the same rule.
Do you test the bibs?
No. Picks come from reading each listing and the official health advice we link to.
Why are there no prices?
Prices change all the time. The Amazon page shows today's price for your country.
Are these affiliate links?
Yes. See the disclosure at the foot of every page.
