What is a dribble bib?
A cloth bib made to soak up saliva at the chin and neck. Most are bandana-shaped triangles with a cotton or muslin front and a fleece or water-resistant back, fastened with snaps.
It is for dribbling, not for mealtimes. The NHS lists dribbling more than usual among the signs of teething.
Bandana, rectangle or carrier: which shape?
Bandana bibs are the classic. Rectangles cover more of the chest; carrier-style bibs are made to wear under straps.
- Fabric: cotton or muslin on top, something water-resistant or fleece on the back.
- Layers: two or three layers soak up more.
- Snaps: two or three snap positions let it grow with the neck.
- Pack size: you will change several a day, so a multipack saves money.

Washing dribble bibs
Wash after use. They get wet often and a damp bib left in a pile smells fast.
Follow the listing's care line. Most are machine washable; hang them to dry fully.
- Not stated on the listing: Konssy, KeaBabies, NISXABEBE, Yukkidds
- Machine washable: flysclean, KeaBabies, Egmao Baby

Safety, in plain words
A bib is clothing: it doesn't lower the risk of choking. Stay close, check the fastenings and take it off before sleep.
- Stay with your baby. The NHS first foods page says to always stay with your baby while they eat in case they choke, and that they should sit upright in a securely harnessed seat. The page does not say a bib changes the risk.
- Know gagging from choking. NHS Start for Life calls gagging a normal, noisy reflex and choking quiet, and gives first-aid steps. It doesn't mention bibs.
- Check the fastening. Look at snaps, ties and straps at every meal and stop using a bib with a loose, cracked or broken part. Neither source says more about bibs than that, so this is common sense, not a rule we can cite.
- Take it off before sleep. The Lullaby Trust says babies need just two items in their cot: a firm, flat, waterproof mattress and lightweight bedding, and lists soft items to avoid. It doesn't name bibs; we follow the same rule.
- A bib isn't a teether. Don't let a bib be chewed or worn as a loop around the neck.
- Words on listings are claims. "BPA-free", "food-grade", "organic" and "waterproof" are the maker's statements; we haven't seen test reports or certificates.
Frequently asked questions
When do babies start dribbling?
Many start around 2 to 3 months, and it often increases around teething. Every baby is different.
Do dribble bibs prevent rashes?
A dry chin helps, but a bib doesn't treat a rash. If skin is sore, speak to a pharmacist or doctor.
Is a bandana bib better than a rectangle?
It's a matter of preference. Bandana bibs sit neatly; rectangles cover more.
How many dribble bibs do I need?
Plenty: you may change them several times a day. Many families keep ten or so.
Can a dribble bib be a teether?
No. A bib isn't a teether.
Can my baby sleep in a bib?
No. Take it off before sleep. The Lullaby Trust says a cot should hold just a firm mattress and light bedding; it doesn't mention bibs, so we follow the same rule.
Snaps or ties?
Snaps are easier to fasten and adjust. Check them regularly.
Why are there no prices?
Prices change all the time. The Amazon page shows today's price for your country.
